PETER GORINSKY BIOGRAPHY

Peter Gorinsky was born on a heliconia leaf along the banks of the Berbice River during a fishing trip in then British Guiana. A true fly-fishing pioneer, Gorinsky learned to fish at a young age in the Rupununi headwaters of the Amazon basin, honing his skills on exotic species that few, if any, had ever caught on a fly rod.

From Guyana, Gorinsky spent years in Europe, there learning the finer points of fly fishing with old souls in Wales, England and Germany. From there, he traveled to the United States, where he fished with, and befriended, such fly fishing notables as Lefty Kreh, Dan Blanton, Mel Kreiger and Stu Apte, traveling the country, observing, and absorbing new techniques. Despite his wanderlust, he never lost his love of the tropics, and so settled in Costa Rica in 1974. Gorinsky helped pioneer fly fishing and eco-tourism in the inland waters of Costa Rica, for species which were considered new to the fly fishing world like the Bobo, Machaca, Mojarra, Tepemachin and Guapote.

He also directed the training of sport fishing guides in tarpon lodges along the Caribbean coast, and developed techniques for blue water species, working extensively to perfect and advise on tackle with companies like Scott, Orvis, Winston, TFO, Fenwick, Rio and Billy Pate. Today, Gorinsky insists on eco-angling - a true awareness of your natural surrounding in which you treat the fish as a partner in your sport and not an adversary.
